Rich Nye brings vast experience and hometown perspective to his storytelling as a reporter for WTHR, Channel 13, Eyewitness News. Rich was born (11/3/1968) and raised in Indianapolis, and has spent his entire broadcasting career in Central Indiana. Rich dreamed in elementary school of growing up to be a sportscaster and feels blessed to have realized his dream. He spent nearly 24 years as sports anchor/reporter for WTHR before transitioning to primarily a news reporter in July 2017.

Rich joined Channel 13 in August 1994 as a sports reporter. A year later, he became the first weekend morning TV sports anchor in Indianapolis. He has filled many roles in the sports department and continues to cover sports occasionally for WTHR.

Before joining channel 13, Rich was the first sports anchor for WALV, 27 Alive, which was channel 13's sister station at the time and later became SkyTrak weather. Rich also worked for Network Indiana and several radio stations early in his career as a news and sports reporter.

Rich’s diverse experience includes covering three Super Bowls, several Final Fours, the 2016 Kokomo tornadoes and Mike Tyson’s rape trial - in addition to all the major events right here in Indianapolis each year. But his favorite stories are about people who enjoy special triumphs or overcome unique challenges.

Rich's reporting has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Radio & Television News Director Association. He has also received a regional Emmy award for sports reporting.

Rich enjoys reading, listening to music and working out. He is active in several ministries at Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood. Rich has three sons - Caleb, Joshua and Luke - and lives in Perry Township in Indianapolis.
