Karen Campbell

Eyewitness News Anchor / Reporter

Karen Campbell joined the Channel 13 Eyewitness News team in the summer of 2019. She comes to Central Indiana from WBAL, an NBC-affiliate, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Karen spent five years in Baltimore as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for WBAL and Sinclair-owned FOX45. She covered stories ranging from city and state politics to being on the front lines during the Freddie Gray riots.

Karen was born and raised in Maryland and got her undergraduate degree in mass communications from Bowie State University. She is also a Terp, having attended the University of Maryland.

Her career began in print. She worked for the Public Opinion newspaper in Chambersburg, PA and Dow Jones newspapers. She would later find her way back to Maryland to work for Prince George's Community Television as a producer, reporter, anchor and host. She later moved to Harrisonburg, VA as a weekend anchor/reporter for WHSV. She's also worked for WBOC in Salisbury, MD.

She is the daughter of a retired DC Public Schools teacher/librarian and the youngest of four girls – two of which are retired military and the other a retired police officer. Her family still questions how she got the journalism bug. As a child, she was extremely shy.

Karen holds a national fitness certification and enjoys teaching Zumba. She loves to travel and loves adventure. She's been skydiving, swimming with dolphins, riding a mule up and down a 1700 ft. sea cliff in Hawai'i and much more.

Her favorite quote: "What we in the news business can never forget is that we are only as good as the stories we tell."
