Take the 'Put The Phone Down' Pledge

WTHR wants central Indiana to take the PUT THE PHONE DOWN PLEDGE by reminding all drivers that your life is worth it and driving distracted is not.

Together with the Indiana Motor Truck Association and your Central Indiana Chevy Dealers, WTHR is making the commitment to educate and motivate drivers across Central Indiana to make the pledge to put their phones down while driving!

  • I promise to protect the lives of others by never taking selfies, checking email or social media, selecting music or talking on the phone while behind the wheel

  • I promise to be a good PASSENGER and speak up if the driver in my car is distracted, texting, or talking on the phone

  • I promise to encourage my family and friends to drive phone-free

  • 57% of American drivers admit to texting behind the wheel
  • Hand-held cell phone use while driving is highest among 15- to 29-year-old drivers
  • People who text & drive are 23 times more likely to crash
  • Each day in the US, approximately 9 people are killed and more than 1000 are injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver
  • The average text takes your eyes of the road for nearly 5 seconds – driving 55mph in 5 seconds travels the length of a football field
