Triple Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

What is Board Certification?

Board Certification is a voluntary and rigorous process completed by passing comprehensive written and oral exams. Board certifications must be maintained through annual requirements of continuing medical education.

  • There are approximately 60,000 plastic surgeons and sub-specialties of plastic surgeons in the United States. Of those 60,000, approximately
    • 15% are not board certified.
    • 55% are board certified by one regulating medical authority.
    • 29% are board certified by two regulating medical authorities.
    • Less than 1% are regulated by three or more regulating medical authorities.
  • Dr. Chernoff is board certified by three regulating medical authorities making him among the 1% of Plastic Surgeons in the United States with this high level of credentials. His board certifications are from:
    • American Academy of Facial and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery (AAFRPS)
    • American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (ABOTO)
    • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • Dr. Chernoff completes on average 100 hours of continuing medical education per year that allows him to be the forefront of medical advancements in the industry.

Why is it important?

  • The government does not require a surgeon to be specifically trained in the procedures they offer. (Many doctors with general surgery or other medical training hop on the cosmetic surgery bandwagon in pursuit of greater profits).
  • Board certification is a dependable way to know if their surgeon is properly trained and experienced in cosmetic surgery.
  • One of the best ways to know if your doctor has the qualifications to provide care in a specialty is to find out if he or she is Board Certified and participating in activities to stay up-to-date with the latest advances in medicine and patient care.
  • Only board certification confirms the doctor has had the training in a specialty in order to practice it.
  • Board certification also means your physician has complied with regular examinations and clinical testing of their current knowledge.
  • Board certified doctors voluntarily meet additional standards beyond basic licensing.
