GARY, Ind. (WTHR) – Indiana State Police say a woman was arrested after she was seen driving with only three tires.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, an ISP sergeant Weems was performing a traffic stop with a motorcycle on I-80 west near Broadway when he saw a dark colored Ford SUV approaching faster than the 55 mph speed limit.

The Ford SUV failed to move over as required by Indiana law for emergency vehicles. As the SUV passed, Weems noticed that it was driving on three tires and the front passenger side tire was gone and driving on the rim.

While attempting to pull over the vehicle, Weems noticed the SUV swerving and almost hit the curb more than once.

The driver, later identified as 46-year-old Sherry Sanchez, was also found to be driving while impaired over three times the legal limit.

Sanchez told police that she didn’t know what was wrong with her car but all the lights on her dash were going off. She also stated she was a home health care nurse and was on her way to a patient in Chicago.

She was taken and booked at the Lake County Jail in Crown Point.

Sanchez was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Failure to Yield to Law Enforcement Stationary (Move Over Law), and Operating on Highway with non-compliant vehicle.
