INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro Police say that Shantell Taylor, 33, surrendered to IMPD with her attorney in the shooting death of 13-year-old Harry Taliefer.

Taylor was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to the City-County Building lock-up facility for processing Saturday.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

Police say the Marion County Violent Crimes unit and city and county gang units were instrumental in encouraging Taylor to surrender peacefully.

Taylor just had her 33rd birthday this past week.

The teen died after witnesses say an adult female opened fire as a group of kids got into an altercation outside Harry’s home Thursday night. Witnesses also say he tried to defuse the situation and attempted to calm everyone down.

No word yet if IMPD Homicide has the gun used in this incident, but officers recovered several shell casings at the scene near 21st and Arlington Avenue.

Harry’s Family needs help with raising money for a funeral since they did not have insurance on the child. He was a student at Decatur Middle School. A GoFundMe account has been established.
