Will Power earns $2.5 million for Indy 500 victory

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Indy 500 champion Will power will take home more than $2.5 million for his victory.

Power won his first Indianapolis 500 Sunday, topping pole sitter Ed Carpenter, who will pick up a check for $911,504 at Monday's victory banquet. Power's official earnings total $2,525,454.

Scott Dixon, Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the top five in Sunday's final box score. Last year's champion, Takuma Sato, went out of the race after a crash with James Davison. Sato will collect a check for over $300,000.

Rookie Robert Wickens earned $424,979 for his ninth-place finish, which includes $50,000 for being named Sunoco Rookie of the Year.

The winnings for each driver are determined by awards including those from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Verizon IndyCar Series.
