WINNIPEG, Canada (WTHR) — An adorable otter is on the mend after the Winnipeg Humane Society rescued it from under a dumpster.

Students saw the otter in downtown Winnipeg and the humane society took it to the Wildlife haven Rehabilitation Centre.

It's unclear why the otter was away from its natural habitat or how it got under a dumpster. An official at Wildlife Haven said the otter may have left his home looking for food, but lost his way back during freezing weather.

The rehab center said the otter is underweight, but expected to make a full recovery. When he is healthy again, workers will release it into a river that runs through the city.
