CARMEL (WTHR) - Danny Boy Beer Works in Carmel opened in the Village of West Clay about a year and a half ago. The focus was always, of course, on the beer.

They feature ten taps dedicated to Danny Boy Beers, but also 30 guest taps. But what customers and even the owners always knew was missing was a beer-friendly food menu. That all changed this summer.

Patrick Mullens and his wife took over the kitchen at Danny Boy, putting in their own smoker in the back and started churning out some American favorites.

"Lots of meat. It's central Texas if I had to say I would shoot for central Texas style BBQ," said Mullens. "We've got the brisket nachos, pulled pork sandwich, ribs, a lot of appetizers, salads, desserts. It's real food for real people."

I really like the atmosphere. On a great summer night, they can open up the large garage doors that serve as walls. It's a pretty kid-friendly environment until about nine or ten o'clock at night. People who live in the neighborhood are regulars, but owner Kevin Paul says they are starting to see a bigger draw from as far away as the Indianapolis area as well.

"It's been very well received as a tap room and restaurant in this neighborhood. It was new to these folks, especially the hours that we keep, but they've been very accommodating and to this point and it's been a lot of fun" said Paul.

The customers really seem to like the new menu as well. One of my favorites are the pulled pork nachos. They were so good! Make sure you join us tonight at 5:30 to see what else is coming out of the kitchen at Danny Boy!
