AVON, Ind. (WTHR) – In the mood for Thai food?

A safe bet is to find a place with a chef who grew up in Thailand.

In this segment of What's Cooking, Sunrise anchor Julia Moffitt visits Bangkok Kitchen in Avon.

“I always say fresh food, fresh ingredients,” owner Saowalux Fary told us.

“I lived in Bangkok and my mom sent me to learn from my aunt, she had big restaurant in Thailand.”

Fary showed us the Thai pineapple fried rice, a popular item at Bangkok Kitchen.

It came to the table in the shell of a pineapple.

We observed notes of yellow curry amid the freshness and sweetness of the pineapple juice. It was delicious.

Customers also come for the pad thai, a noodle dish with chicken. The chef can adjust the spice level to the according to the taste of the diner.

We topped off the meal with a lychee martini, named for the thai fruit featured in it.
