INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - State Police re-opened westbound traffic on Interstate 70 at Emerson Avenue Friday seven hours after a truck struck an overhead sign.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. when police say a dump truck struck the electronic messaging sign near Pogues Run, then a trailing semi hit the sign again.

Neither driver was injured, according to police at the scene.

Police rerouted westbound traffic to surface streets such as Massachusetts Avenue and 21st Street until the scene was clear. The highway reopened just before 11:00 a.m.

INDOT inspectors checked the damage and determined they needed two cranes to remove the sign and support pipes.

As part of the cleanup, two left lanes of eastbound I-70 at Sherman Drive were also shut down to make room for heavy equipment needed to lift the sign.
