West side house fire sparks $20,000 in damage


Indianapolis firefighters were busy Sunday morning with a house fire on the city's near west side. The blaze struck a house on Belmont Avenue near Washington St. about 4:30AM.

The home is occupied, but the residents were not home at time of fire, according to an IFD spokesperson. While firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, the rear of the house was hit hardest. Damage was estimated at $20,000, according to IFD.
