Storm Updates: Evacuations ordered in Placer County due to potential debris flow

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Nevada and Placer counties until 3 a.m.

A powerful storm arrived Sunday bringing inches of rain to the Sacramento region, high winds, and potentially feet of snow in the Sierra. Check back here for the latest updates.

Problems in Burn Areas

The Placer County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders for some areas of Colfax due to potential debris flow near the River Fire burn scar area. The orders include Hill crest Blvd, south from 1565 Hillcrest Blvd to Spring Valley Rd, Spring Valley Rd. from Milk Ranch Road, and Ben Taylor to the Bear River.

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Nevada and Placer counties until 3 a.m.

A Flash Flood/Debris Flow Warning was also issued for the River Fire area. The National Weather Service said heavy rain could cause debris flows within the River Fire burn scar. Officials said people should be prepared to evacuate if told to do so by local authorities.

Caltrans says that Highway 70 near Jarbo Gab in Butte County will be closed for a long time due to mudslides.  Also in the Dixie Fire burn area, the CHP says Highway 70 is closed at Greenville Way because of mudslides.

Nevada County issued an evacuation warning ahead of the storm.  The county issued the warnings for zones NCO-E102-A, NCO-E050-A, and NCO-E103A. They are saying flash potential flood and debris flow could cause hazardous conditions.

Canceled Events

Sunday's IRONMAN California event in Sacramento has been canceled because of this weekend's storm.

The race was canceled shortly before the race was set to begin. According to a post on IRONMAN California's Facebook, they say weather conditions worsened overnight and will stay bad through the course of the day.

The Outlaw Music Festival at the Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland has been cancelled due to weather.

Power Outages

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District says there are more than 2,000 customers without power in Folsom.

Folsom Police Department said the outage happened in the Empire Ranch area after a car crashed into an electrical box near Harvest Loop.

The Woodland Fire reported that the storm caused more than 3,500 customers are without power in Woodland.

County Severe Weather Shelters:

Janna Haynes, the Public Information Manager for Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance told ABC10 that people experiencing homelessness in the Sacramento area should try to find shelter by 2 p.m.
