INDIANAPOLIS — After a hot Saturday, today will likely be even hotter and will feel like the hottest day so far in 2020. Yesterday marked the twelfth day of 90-plus degree heat in 2020.
The National Weather Service has also issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 7 p.m. for Indiana counties north of a line from Lafayette to Kokomo.
A Heat Advisory is in effect for central Indiana from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. today thanks to the high heat and humidity.
Afternoon highs will climb into the mid 90s with heat indices in the upper 90s into the low triple digits.
Cumulus clouds will build vertically today ahead of a cold front. The front will trigger thunderstorms by early evening, if not before.
A few storms could be strong to severe, with damaging winds the main threat and isolated large hail possible too.
Not everyone will get rain, but areas that do will get some heavy downpours. Northeast central Indiana looks like the best chance for stronger storm development.
