INDIANAPOLIS — Buckle up for an eventful weekend of weather in central Indiana as a dynamic storm system intensifies over the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes Saturday into Sunday.
A persistently narrow zone of rain and, at times, marginally severe storms continues at this hour south and southeast of Indy. This area of storminess should ease toward midnight with the main wave of rain slated to arrive mid-morning Saturday.
We've stressed all week long that you should have an indoor option available due to what will be a wet weekend at times. With that said, rain coverage early Saturday will be scattered and it should diminish rapidly after 5 p.m. from southwest to northeast. The hours of 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday have the highest odds of rain/thunderstorms, but we should salvage a decent evening to finish the day.
Rain will be heavy at times and locally severe wind gusts are possible as the storm strengthens to our west. This strengthening leads to windy conditions heading into Sunday morning, which will be damp in areas of rain wraps around the backside of the storm.
This makes for rather raw conditions into at least midday Sunday, but some clearing is expected later Sunday afternoon as the low moves away from central Indiana. The end result will be quite a temperature gradient from mid-60s southwest to upper 40s/lower 50s northeast. It may be a game-time decision on whether Indy will see some late-day sun on Sunday to boost temps into the 60s.
