Strong to severe storms possible tonight | March 31, 2023

A line of storms will develop ahead of a cold front this evening and some could be strong to severe.

Watches have been issued for Illinois, Iowa and Missouri.

Scattered showers will be around this afternoon with some embedded thunderstorms.

The wind will increase out of the south from 20 to 25 mph. Winds will gust around 35 to 40 mph.

The severe weather threat will arrive this evening along a cold front. A line of storms is expected to develop ahead of the front. Damaging winds will be the main threat. Areas in west central Indiana have a better chance of getting 65 to 70+ mph winds along the storm's leading edge. 

Isolated tornadoes will also be possible along with large hail. The time frame looks to be 10 p.m. in west central Indiana, 11 p.m. for the Indianapolis metro area and midnight for east central Indiana.

The winds will be gusty, even outside of any storms. Gusts will be 45 to 50 mph at times.

A Wind Advisory will be in effect from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday.

The gusty winds will continue through the overnight, with the severe threat tapering off around 1 a.m. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40s. 

Saturday will be a windy day, with sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph and gusts over 45 mph. Wind chills will be in the 20s in the morning.

A few spotty showers are possible Saturday afternoon, otherwise, skies will be cloudy with temperatures falling into the low 40s.

Clouds will clear overnight and conditions will be blustery. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s. 

Sunday will be sunny and near seasonal with highs back into the upper 50s.
