INDIANAPOLIS — As expected, clouds are winning the war in the sky for the most part today with peeks of sun anticipated the remainder of the day. These clouds have more bark than bite, and conditions will be dry for any outdoor plans this evening.
Areas of mist are possible overnight into Thursday morning, but there should be many dry hours Thursday until showers move in from the west during the afternoon.
All bets off for dry weather by 4 p.m. Thursday, and showers may be steady at times. This is part of a slow-moving upper low that will creep through the Ohio Valley between now and Saturday afternoon.
Pivoting around this feature will be bands of heavier rain and thunderstorms beginning later Thursday night and lingering into Friday evening. We'll have to monitor Friday afternoon closely, as central Indiana will be in location of atmospheric spin that could develop funnels and/or rotation along storms on the southeastern side of the upper low.
The center of circulation moves east-southeast of central Indiana by Saturday morning, but not far enough removed to eliminate clouds and scattered showers to start out the weekend.
While steady, cool temperatures and cloud cover are typically well-received by distance runners. The biggest complaint with our latest OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon forecast will be a wind between 5-15 mph. If you're running, volunteering, and/or cheering for someone in the race, you should dress for 50s and showers as we do expect some rain from time-to-time during the race.
As the low upper low moves away from the Ohio Valley, temperatures rise rapidly to finish the weekend with increasing sunshine Sunday and 70s for Mother's Day.
All guidance remains bullish on well-above average temperatures next week with multiple days in the 80s — quite a pattern shift ahead.
