INDIANAPOLIS — It was quite a day in central Indiana. In desperate need of rain after the fourth-driest first half of summer in Indianapolis, some areas got one to two months worth of rainfall in less than 24 hours today. The end result was Flash Flood Warnings for parts of Hamilton, Madison, Tipton, and Delaware counties.

Radar rainfall estimates, with spotter verification, show a swath of 6"-8"+ rain in Madison/Delaware counties, where several cars became stranded around Muncie. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries and/or property damage.

Flash flood water has receded, but there is still significant street flooding along Big Duck and Pike Creek. Please use caution if you driving overnight within the Areal Flood Warning in Tipton, Hamilton, Delaware, and Madison counties until 8 a.m. Monday morning. This was easily the wettest day of the summer with widespread rain. But it was too much, too quickly for some.

Heat becomes a bigger focus mid to latter half of the week with Wednesday and the weekend looking like highs in the mid/upper 90s with heat indices of 100-105°. Heat advisories and/or excessive heat warnings may be required once again.
