INDIANAPOLIS — Tonight is the night.
Daylight saving time begins. Before heading to bed tonight, remember to set manual clocks forward one hour— 2 a.m. will jump to 3 a.m. as daylight saving time goes into effect.
Tonight's sunset will be at 6:49 p.m. and after the time change, sunset gets pushed closer to 8 p.m.
Saturday, Indianapolis receives 11 hours and 49 minutes of daylight. We'll continue to add a few more minutes of daylight until the summer solstice around June 25 when we will see up to 15 hours of daylight.
The shift in sunrise and sunset does not have much impact on our weather, but it does affect one thing, specifically— the time of day we achieve our high temperature. Since the sun has been coming up earlier, we've been recording daily highs between 3 and 5 p.m. independent of weather conditions impacting temperatures. With a later sunrise and sunset now, we'll start to see daytime highs generally occurring between 4-6 p.m.
