Abnormally dry conditions for central Indiana began on August 19th and there's been very little rainfall since then.

Another stellar autumn day in central Indiana but with noticeably more haze and wildfire smoke (aloft) which is making the sky milky.  However, it won't impact air quality at ground level nor slowing us from warming comfortably into the mid-70s.

The past 30 days have been one of the driest on record in Indianapolis during that time with only .04" measured rainfall.  That's over 3" below average and places it behind 1908 and 1963 for least rain during that stretch.  It also puts September 2020 on record dry watch...with no rain in the forecast until Sunday.

Due to the very dry conditions, please use caution if you are grilling and/or planning on a bonfire in the coming days.  The dry soil can ignite quickly and combined with dry air keeps the fire danger elevated.

It would be nice if Tropical Storm Beta in the western Gulf could bring much-needed rain to the Ohio Valley, but at this time the odds of that happening are low.

The last full day of summer will feature sunny skies with a high of 75. INDIANAPOLIS - It has been a mild several days with highs in the 60s and 70s. The weather pattern will stay mild through mid-week, with highs in the middle and upper 70s.

The autumn equinox, which marks the astronomical beginning of fall, occurs at 9:30 AM on Tuesday... as the sun crosses the equator.  This results in nearly equal amounts of daylight and darkness across the globe.

More crisp nights and mild afternoons are ahead with highs warming to near 80° until the aforementioned front hits on Sunday.  Clear evenings, with the exception of haze from smoke, offers perfect viewing of the International Space Station during the evenings this week.
