Live Doppler 13 weather blog - Zeta to bring heavy rainfall to central Indiana

Expect rain from Wednesday night into Thursday from Hurricane Zeta.

INDIANAPOLIS — While our recent trend has certainly been a wetter overall pattern, there's still some work to do to alleviate drought conditions statewide.

I oftentimes say the best cure for drought is a remnant tropical system. Ask and ye shall receive. Tropical Storm/Hurricane Zeta will make landfall along the Louisiana/Mississippi coast line Wednesday (the fifth landfall this season for that region).

Locally, its remnant moisture streams northward and interacts with a southward dropping cold front Wednesday night into Thursday. The end result will be widespread rain for central Indiana and some beneficially high values too.

There's growing confidence in 1"-2" amounts with 3"+ in south-central Indiana near the Ohio River. If this verifies, it would essentially eliminate moderate drought conditions in the viewing area and put an end to burn bans it would seem.

This precedes another quiet stretch of weather emerging Friday into the middle of next week which bodes for Operation Football, Halloween and Election Day.
