Weather Blog: Storms with high winds, large hail cause damage across central Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — As a line of storms that swiftly blew through central Indiana moves off to the southeast, communities are getting a look at the damage left behind.

5 a.m. - Power outage update:

12:13 a.m. - Hamilton County Emergency Management reports 37 transmission poles are down along Ditch Road in Westfield.

10:36 p.m. - The City of Franklin is also reporting significant damage to buildings in its downtown.

10:33 p.m. - The Tornado Watch for central Indiana has been canceled.

10:15 p.m. - As a line of storms that swiftly blew through central Indiana moves off to the southeast, communities are getting a look at the damage left behind.

There have been numerous reports of trees and power lines down across the area, as well as several fires.

In Mooresville, the storms tore the roofs off of several buildings on Main Street.

8:59 p.m. - Large hail began falling in Greenfield in Hancock County just before 9 p.m. The county remains under a severe thunderstorm warning.

8:58 p.m. - The storm blew through Hamilton County with high winds and frequent lightning.

8:37 p.m. - There are reports of half-inch sized hail in Westfield and Whitestown and pea sized in Fishers.


8:35 p.m. - There are reports of 60 MPH wind gusts and damage including branches 3 inches in diameter being snapped in parts of central Indiana.

8:28 p.m. - Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Bartholomew, Boone, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Montgomery, Morgan, Putnam, Shelby until 9:15 p.m.

7:47 p.m. - Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues for Boone, Clinton, Montgomery, Tippecanoe until 8:00 p.m.

7:34 p.m. - Quarter size hail reported in Attica.


7:28 p.m. - A Tornado Watch has been issued until 2 a.m. Thursday for much of central Indiana.
