BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (NBC News) – A Florida trooper is recovering after a car slams into him on the shoulder of an interstate.

Trooper Jeremy Medastin could be in worse shape if he hadn't reacted so quickly.

Medastin was handling a crash investigation in the rain Monday night on I-95 when a car hydroplaned and headed straight for him.

The trooper was able to jump up and hang onto a wall at the side of the highway.

The car appeared to slam into his feet and ankles and Medastin continued hanging onto the wall until help arrived.

His injuries were not life-threatening.

The driver of the hydroplaning car, identified as 18-year-old Ian Carr, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
