NORWICH, N.Y. (WTHR) – A fast-acting bus driver prevented a near tragedy as a car sped past the bus.

The bus driver is being praised for her actions in the close-call that was caught on camera April 26.

The Norwich School District identified the driver as Samantha Call, describing her as "quick-thinking" and "fast-acting."

The video shows Call grabbing the boy from behind to stop him from getting off the bus as a car speeds past the door. She then honks the horn as the car drives away.

"Samantha did an outstanding job," NCSD Transportation Supervisor William Loomis said in a statement posted on Facebook. "All of our drivers undergo continuous training so they're prepared to handle situations like this. We hope this video helps everyone to realize the dangers of passing a stopped school bus."
