WATCH: Boy reunited with military father at New York hockey game

NEW YORK (WTHR) — Cue the tears!

A young New York Rangers fan got a special surprise Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

NBC Sports reports an emcee selected the boy to take part in a trivia game against Rangers defensiveman Adam Fox to name as many sports movies as you can in 15 seconds.

The boy correctly named 13 movies, while Fox could only come up with six, so he won a prize pack that included a Rangers jersey.

The NBC announcers were in on the surprise as they encouraged viewers to watch as the boy's father, an Army staff sergeant, had the boy's winning jersey in hand at the top of the stairs.

The two embraced in an emotional hug as the crowd rose to their feet in cheers.

The announcer told the crowd the father just returned from a yearlong stint in Afghanistan.

Players from both teams clicked their hockey sticks against the ice in applause.

The Rangers went on to defeat the NHL-leading Washington Capitals 4–1.
