Virginia Zoo needs help choosing a name for their new baby zebra

NORFOLK, Va. (WTHR) – Virginia Zoo has welcomed a new baby zebra, but they need help choosing a name for her!

The adorable female zebra was born Monday, weighing in at 80 pounds and standing at 3 feet tall.

The zookeepers are looking for a name that starts with the letter "Z" after her father Zack who left the Virginia Zoo for breeding at another zoological facility in late 2018.

“We were lucky to have one last filly before Zack left last year. Abby is an experienced mother and she is already taking great care of her baby,” Dr. Colleen Clabbers, the Zoo’s Veterinarian.

To help name the baby, zookeepers have narrowed their options down to five "Z" names: Zelda, Zeta, Zambezi, Zenith, Zephyra.

Now the zoo wants you to vote for your favorite! Voting will end on Sunday, May 19 at midnight.
