DRAPER, Utah (WTHR) - A Utah mother is facing charges for allegedly leaving her 4-year-old son in a hot car as punishment.

Jesica Lee Brown, 28, was charged with investigation of child endangerment and child abuse. Police say a witness saw the child in the car in a city park last week when temperatures were in the 80s.

An officer that responded to the call noted that the vehicle was not turned on and the windows were rolled up. According to KSL-TV, when the officer found Brown, she said the child was "acting out" at the park, so she was punishing him by leaving him in the vehicle.

The officer said the boy had puffy eyes, was sweating and his skin was hot to the touch when they got him out of the car.

Brown later admitted to using methamphetamine and heroin. Police found drug paraphernalia in her purse and syringe needles in the back seat where her son had access to them, police said.
