MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - Sheriff's deputies have recovered the bodies of two men from a pond at a Madison County campground.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department says the two men have been identified as Roger Chezem, 77, and Ed Bollman, 44. The two Anderson men were not related but were longtime friends.

They had gone fishing on the pond at Camp Kikthawenund on West CR 500 North Tuesday afternoon. Several hours later, a concerned relative contacted police after not hearing from the men.

A Camp Ranger received a call from Mr. Chezem’s spouse around 9:00 p.m. because he had not returned home. The ranger located Chezem’s truck near the pond and eventually noticed a large hole in the ice near the center of the pond but could not locate anyone.

Dive teams from DNR and the Union Township Fire Department located the men's bodies in approximately 20 feet of water just before Midnight.

Bollman worked for the DNR as a Conservation Officer assigned to Madison County. He was not on duty at the time he and Chezem went fishing. Bollman is the second Conservation Officer to die this winter.

Autopsies are scheduled Wednesday.

The case is being investigated as accidental by the Sheriff's Office and no foul play is suspected.
