UPDATE: Blue's longtime handler set for kidney transplant

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - It's a happy update to a story we first told you in April.

The man behind Blue, Butler's popular mascot bulldog, is getting a new kidney next month.

Michael Kaltenmark shared his story earlier this year and told us Friday he found a living donor in his brother.

Kaltenmark ended up in stage 4 kidney failure earlier this year after a medication he took years ago for Crohn's disease irreversibly damaged his kidneys.

Now he's getting a second chance at life, thanks to a sibling.

After Kaltenmark shared his story, local radio personality Nikki Reed got tested in hopes of being a match for him. It turned out she wasn't, but was a match for a complete stranger. She is set to undergo surgery next week to donate her kidney.
