INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The United Way of Central Indiana is highlighting Indiana's heroes to celebrate its centennial.

The organization is sharing the stories of 100 heroes, who were "nominated by their peers, family members, co-workers and friends" then selected by a volunteer committee. The honorees were picked for using their "skills, passions and talents to make the community a better place," the United Way said in a release.

"We think there’s no better way to celebrate our 100th birthday milestone than to shine the light on individuals who, in the opinions of others, go above and beyond to make a positive impact in our community," said Allison Melangton, co-chair of the UWCI@100 committee.

The United Way will post the story of one hero a day for 100 days staring January 10. You can read the stories on the United Way of Central Indiana's website.
