TSA expects near record passenger traffic at airport Friday

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - If you are traveling out of Indianapolis for fall break, leave early!

The Transportation Security Administration says nearly 18,000 passengers are expected to pass through TSA checkpoints on Friday.

If the projections hold, Friday would be the second heaviest volume day recorded at the Indianapolis Airport.

The busiest day at the airport was February 6th, 2012 follwing Super Bowl XLVI.

TSA officials at Indianapolis International Airport are prepared for the increased volume, and will utilize all available resources to provide an efficient and effective screening experience.

Through the weekend, TSA says they plan to increase use of explosive detection dogs to move passengers through the checkpoint and that all security checkpoint lanes at IND will be open and staffed during periods of heaviest volume.

TSA recommends arriving to the airport two hours prior to your scheduled departure time and to allow additional time to park.
