INDIANAPOLIS — A new express lane will help traffic move through the construction zone on Interstate 465 on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

The temporary westbound lane, which will be used through the end of the year, will start just west of the I-69/Binford Boulevard exit as the left lane splits off and crosses the center median. The lane is using an old eastbound lane, INDOT said, and will be separated by concrete barriers.

No large trucks are permitted in the express lane and traffic in the lane will not be able to exit at Allisonville Road, nor will traffic entering I-465 from I-69 or Allisonville Road have access to the express lane.

Also, several lanes will be impacted by restrictions during the upcoming weekend as crews continue their work in the area.

Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between I-69 and Keystone Avenue this weekend and westbound entrance and exit ramps at I-69, Allisonville Road and Keystone Avenue will see restrictions and may also have brief closures through Sunday, according to INDOT.

On I-69, the on-ramp from 82nd Street to the southbound lanes of the interstate was expected to close Friday night. It will reopen on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Binford Blvd. interchange changes

On Monday night, Aug. 15, a temporary ramp is expected to open for southbound traffic on I-69 exiting to westbound I-465. The temporary ramp will allow for the existing ramp to be closed and rebuilt.

With the move, southbound traffic on I-69 will now exit to the right to go south on I-465 and will exit from the center lanes to go west on I-465. INDOT shared this video to explain the changes.

Crews will be making changes to road markings and overhead signs overnight Monday to help direct drivers through the new lanes. The work will lead to stoppages of up to 20 minutes while crews work, INDOT said.
