INDIANAPOLIS — A crash on Interstate 465 north near Interstate 70 on the east side resulted in the death of one person Tuesday.

It happened around noon. A section of the busy highway was shut down for more than two hours.

State police said first responders arrived to find Shawn Patterson, 51, Plainfield, unconscious on the roadway. Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe Patterson had pulled onto the right shoulder to make adjustments to cargo in the back of his pickup truck when an SUV driven by Drew Collins, 37, Indianapolis, left the roadway and struck Patterson. A semi tractor-trailer also became part of the collision.

Patterson was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. The semi driver was not hurt.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to ISP.
