INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The Indiana Department of Transportation is planning to work on five different highway projects in and around metro Indy this weekend.

The plan includes a total closure of Interstate 65 into downtown.

Drivers should plan ahead and find an alternate route if their travels involve one of the work zones.

If they must travel through areas where crews are working, drivers are urged to allow plenty of time to slow down to a safe speed before entering the construction zone. Drivers should also be aware that State Police and Indianapolis Metro Police will be patrolling work zones and ticketing drivers for speeding and reckless or distracted driving.

INDOT crews and Hoosier Helpers will be making sure drivers are aware of slowing traffic and upcoming work zones.

Rain could change the planned work in some cases.

Lane restrictions will be in place on I-65 approaching I-465 on the south side. Just one lane will be open north of Southport Road starting Friday night and lasting until 6 a.m. Monday.

On the north side, I-465 eastbound from Keystone to the White River will be down to a single lane started at 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday. Westbound traffic through same stretch of I-465 will be restricted to two lanes starting Saturday night and lasting until Monday morning.

On the east side, northbound I-465 will be down to one lane from the I-70 interchange to Pendleton Pike starting Friday at 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday.

On the northwest side starting in Boone County, the left lane of I-465 eastbound will be closed starting at the I-865 dogleg over to U.S. 31/Meridian Street in Carmel. This project starts at Friday at 8 p.m. and is scheduled to wrap up at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Other projects on the northwest side are ongoing. Traffic in each direction of I-865 continues to be restricted to one lane through at least October 9. And I-65 between Little Eagle Creek to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. is still restricted to two lanes open each direction through the end of October.

The Ohio Street ramps in downtown Indianapolis will close at 9 a.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday.
