Firefighters spent three hours Tuesday bringing a large tire fire under control in Hamilton County.

Firefighters with the Jackson Township Fire Territory responded to the fire at GW Pierce Auto Parts off U.S. 31, north of SR 38 near Cicero. When firefighters arrived, they found a large fire involving tires, trash and various vehicle parts.

In all, firefighters from 15 departments in Hamilton and surrounding counties assisted in fighting the fire, which was reported around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

More than 100,000 gallons of water were shuttled in to battle the blaze, since there are no hydrants in the area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Investigators with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management are monitoring the area for possible contamination.
