INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The 2019 Indy Heart Walk aims to raise $700,000 for the American Heart Association and to educate the public about healthy hearts and healthy practices.

"Take the heel of your hand which is the strongest part of your hand put it right at the center of the chest," a CPR instructor demonstrates. "You're going to push until you hear a click and your going to continue to compress no matter how tired your arms get until 911 arrives."

Many walk in honor of loved ones.

"[My mom] was at a cookout with her friends and just collapsed," one woman remembers. "Ever since that day this organization has been very near and dear to my heart."

The Indy Heart Walk began with yoga during the sunrise. Then, participants could run in a timed 5K followed by the walk. Participants chose between a one mile and a three mile walk.

WTHR's Chuck Lofton served as master of ceremonies for the event.
