Former NICU patients, doctors, and nurses reunite

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Thousands of St. Vincent and Peyton Manning Children's Hospital patients got a chance to reunite Saturday with the doctors and nurses who treated them in the NICU.

Former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had a special message for all of them. (See the video above to hear is message.)

"Today I would like to recognize the MVPs who make this possible, our dedicated doctors, nurses, therapists and countless others that care for you and your baby," said Manning in a video message.

This was the 20th year for the NICU reunion.

It was held at Zionsville Lions Park with all sorts of activities for the kids like face painting and a bouncy house.

We spoke with one teenager who says he was treated there for the first six weeks of his life.

"It's crazy to think that so many other families are going through and have gone through this same situation that my family is," said Sam Estes, 17-year-old former patient from Noblesville. "And it's great to see the few doctors and nurses that are still around 17 years later."

Three-thousand people were expected to attend today's reunion.

A St. Vincent nurse organized the first one out of her basement 20 years ago, hosting 500 patients.
