There's an educational purpose behind the airport's decorated snow plow

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) The Indianapolis International Airport is showing off a special snowplow this winter.

It's 18 feet tall and decorated, designed by art students from McClelland Elementary School.

The theme of this year's plow is saving the ocean from trash and plastic.

"Studies show that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish and the reason for that is that 8 million times, plastic is entered in the ocean every year, that's unacceptable," said Reily Allison, a fifth-grader.

"We have a social media challenge for you guys. All you have to do is post a picture of yourself on any social media with a reusable alternative to plastic straws and plastic bags," said Lucas Allison

The plow will be on display through December 19th.
