BRYAN, Ohio (WTHR) - A factory worker who helped bring joy to children of all ages for nearly 50 years is getting retirement wishes from around the world.

Earlier this week, the Spangler Candy Company, makers of Dum-Dum suckers, shared a photo of "Al," a 48-year employee who retired on Friday. Despite overseeing the production of more than 50 billion (yes, with a "B") suckers, Al didn't think anyone would care about his retirement.

Al was wrong.

Thousands of people shared their memories of Dum-Dums and their appreciation for Al on the company's Facebook and Twitter pages, bringing it all together with the hashtag #ThanksAl.

And thanks to Al, we even learned something along the way!

Happy retirement, Al!
