INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Indianapolis Metro Police Department is investigating a fifth person shot and killed in a string of weekend violence.

Police responded to reports of a person shot just before 3 p.m. Sunday. It happened near 34th Street and Franklin Road on the northeast side.

Police say the victim, 17-year-old Leandre Lane, was walking with a friend when he was killed by a person driving by.

The vehicle stopped and a person stepped out of the vehicle before firing the gun, striking Lane. That suspect then got back in the vehicle and continued away from the scene, according to police.

Police don't have a description of the vehicle or a possible suspect yet.

Saturday night and into the early morning Sunday, four people were reported dead in several shootings.
