INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after getting shot on the east side Tuesday morning.

Neighbor Julie Hinds said the boy was on his way to the school bus just after 6 a.m. when he was shot on North Linwood Avenue near East Washington Street.

Hinds told Eyewitness News her husband heard the shots and then heard the teen screaming in agony. The neighbor also said the teen's family only recently moved into the home.

Police say the teen was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The shooting happened just a couple hours before a 2-year-old was shot just five blocks away. Police do not believe the two shootings are related.

NOTE: A previous version of this story said Hinds said she heard the shots. It has been corrected to show it was Hinds' husband who heard the gunshots.
