RUSHVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) - For months, we've been following the story of a Rushville substitute teacher who lost more than 500 pounds and needed surgery to be able to get a new prosthetic leg.

Wednesday was the day.

Stanley Hollar is undergoing surgery at St. Vincent Carmel hospital to remove a lot of excess skin from his legs.

In fact, his doctor says it's the most he's ever had to remove.

The problem came from quite a triumph. Stanley lost 500 pounds with surgery, diet and exercise.

This surgery will allow him to get a properly-fitting prosthesis and walk again.

The skin removal surgery is not covered by insurance.

A discount from his doctor and donations from Hoosiers made it happen.

Stanley Hollar has lost nearly 500 pounds since 2015 and it shows when he holds up an old pair of pants.
