Teacher makes fun YouTube videos with students

David Dean

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WTHR) – Who was your favorite teacher growing up? Chances are one face, in particular, pops into your mind. At Greenwood Middle School, many students would say their favorite teacher is David Dean. He talks to 6th graders about the latest technology. He’s a business and information technology instructor.

For 14 years, Dean's been showing students he cares about their success, and he’s been doing it with a smile on his face.

"If they can see you believe in them, they're willing to do anything for you,” said Dean.

He does anything he can to get through to his students.

Dean added, "I don't play the latest games or Fortnite, but I know about them."

He also knows a thing or two about YouTube. Greenwood Middle School has its own YouTube channel. On it, you'll discover dozens of videos created by Dean and his students.

"We started to get the kids more involved and started to show them that YouTube is a great tool that you can use not only to just entertain and inform people but to motivate and inspire people."

There are videos about bullying, the ISTEP test and the school’s canned food drive. Last year’s video about GMS’s canned food drive was such a big hit, they decided to make another one for this year’s event.

Dean added, "We're just trying to show the kids that there are a lot of tools out there that are really neat that they can use and giving them the technology and the freedom to try to do it."
