SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WTHR) — The Sunrise team broadcast live from Indianapolis Motor Speedway Thursday, ahead of a special broadcast of "The TODAY Show" from the track.

Ben Hill, Julia Moffitt and Carlos Diaz were at IMS before Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker hosted a special hour of "TODAY" featuring special guests Tom Hanks and Sheryl Crow. "TODAY" aired from IMS from 8 - 9 a.m.

Hanks is in Indianapolis to celebrate "Hidden Heroes," a campaign for the Elizabeth Dole Foundation that benefits military caregivers.

The actor and filmmaker spoke to a crowd at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Wednesday for a Hidden Heroes event. He and Guthrie also got to meet with military families and their caregivers at the Children's Museum. Hanks and Dole sat down with Guthrie to share some of the stories about military caregivers they've seen through the organization.

Sheryl Crow performed as part of the 2019 Citi Concert Series on "TODAY."


Fans started filing into the Speedway before 4 a.m. to attend the live show that orginated from the start-finish line on the track's main straightaway.
