VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) – An Indiana State Police Trooper escaped with minor injuries on Interstate 70 Saturday night after his vehicle was struck by a semi trailer.

Police say Senior Trooper Tim Rader was westbound in his car working an accident involving a truck that ran off the road east of Terre Haute. The vehicle was in the driving lane of Interstate 70 - all emergency lights activated - diverting oncoming traffic to the passing lane.

A westbound tractor trailer saw Rader's lights and hit the brakes on his 2019 Freightliner, but lost control and the truck began to jack-knife, and struck the Trooper’s car on the driver side.

Trooper Rader was wearing his seatbelt and sustained only minor cuts and bruises. Medics checked him at the scene and cleared him.

Both the trucker and co-driver, from Mississauga, Ontario, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Trooper Justin Bell investigated the crash and believes the tractor trailer was traveling too fast for the slick road conditions.
