SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WTHR) - A southern Indiana father was arrested along I-65 for allegedly driving drunk with his infant child in the car.

State Police say Derek W. Ribelin, 34, of Vallonia, appeared to be intoxicated when he was found passed out behind the wheel by a state trooper near Scottsburg Wednesday night.

Ribelin was stopped along the right side on the interstate with flashers on and his nine-month-old son was standing on his lap, crying and banging on the window. A loaded pistol was found in the driver's side door.

Police say an open alcoholic beverage container was sitting on the passenger's seat.

A preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .136 and Ribelin was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw before he was jailed in Scott County.

The child was taken by ambulance to Scott Memorial Hospital before he was released to his biological mother.
