INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Peyton Manning changed the sports landscape in Indianapolis, and now he’s changing the way we see the city’s sports icons.
On October 7, the Colts will unveil a larger-than life-sized statue of Manning, the first of its kind in Indianapolis.
It happens on the weekend the franchise retires the legendary uniform number 18.
Local sculptor Ryan Feeney has been charged with re-creating Peyton's likeness in bronze. He talked about some of the preparations he made for the project.
“Do you have the right shoe? Is it a Nike versus a Reebok? Do you even put in the logo? Taking a look at the Colts logo, there’s seven studs on the horseshoe, if you put six in there, it’s going to be wrong, so there’s a lot that correlates with the statue and how Peyton ran his offense is how I kind of run my shop, my statues, my art, Feeney said. “When somebody looks at my statue, I want it to be exact."
