Tony Stewart to drive classic A.J. Foyt winner before Indianapolis 500

Tony Stewart will turn laps in the car A.J. Foyt drove to his first of four Indianapolis 500 victories in 1961 before this year's race.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - "Smoke" is returning to the Indianapolis 500!

While he won't be on track to take the green flag, Tony Stewart tweeted Tuesday that he'll be part of the pre-race festivities, driving the car A.J. Foyt raced to his first of four Indianapolis 500 wins in 1961.

"Team One Cure," a part of the Tony Stewart Foundation, will sponsor the No. 77 car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in this month's race. Jay Howard will be the driver.

Stewart drove in the Indianapolis 500 five times, winning the pole in his first start in 1996, but finishing 24th. His best finish came a year later, when he finished fifth.

Foyt, of course, added Indianapolis 500 wins in 1964, 1967 and 1977 to become the first driver to win the race four times.

This year's 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500 takes place Sunday, May 28.
