INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Baseball players are sometimes known as "The Boys of Summer." Indians players took some time recently to make sure children here in Indy have a fun summer.
They helped put together some bikes for local foster kids.
"Kids in foster care don't get a lot of the things that a lot of people take for granted," volunteer Adam Axthelm said.
"When I was growing up, I rode my bike to middle school, I rode my bike to high school and I live close enough to the field that I sometimes still ride my bike to the field now. So I hope whoever ends up getting these bikes has a great time with them and it's a great memory-maker for them," Indians catcher Ryan Lavarnway said.
Volunteers said the event was a chance to tell foster kids across the area "that people care and that they matter."
