HOUSTON, Tex. (WTHR) - Carlos Correa made good on a promise he made before the American League Championship Series when he homered to even the series at one game apiece after the Astros' 3-2 win over the New York Yankees Sunday night.
Correa led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a home run off New York's J.A. Happ that tied the series at one game apiece.
Friday, Correa and his fiance, Daniella Rodriguez, visited with Jalen Garcia at Houston's M.D. Anderson Hospital, where Garcia is undergoing treatment for cancer. According to the Laredo Morning Times, Garcia was diagnosed at age 13 and has been in the Houston hospital since Aug. 13.
Rodriguez, a former Miss Texas, and Garcia are both from Laredo and attended the same high school.
In an Instagram story Sunday afternoon, Rodriguez quoted Correa in a post to Garcia, saying, “Next home run I hit will be for you… When you see me pointing, I’ll be pointing at you. - Carlos J. Correa to Jalen Garcia (Laredo’s warrior fighting cancer)”
As he rounded first base Sunday night after his home run had settled into the right field stands, Correa's right finger was pointing up in the air.
Game 3 will be in New York Tuesday at 4:08 p.m.
